Call Point & Button Covers
These covers have been designed to help prevent accidental and malicious activation of emergency buttons. Our range of call point, break glass and push button covers are ideal for use in schools, colleges, nursing, care homes, hospitals, shopping centres and any other areas with public access.
The covers are made from tough 3mm thick polycarbonate and are colour coded for ease of recognition and correct use:
RED - for fire alarm buttons
GREEN - for emergency exit buttons
YELLOW - for gas and electricity buttons
BLUE - for swimming pools and miscellaneous buttons
Our covers come with different levels of protection, depending on your needs:
Standard cover: Prevents accidental activation, also acts as a visual deterrent/barrier to those wishing to maliciously raise a false fire alarm.
Best application: accidental activation of alarm perhaps when alarm button is located near a door with exit button, or accidental knocking of alarm by passers by. When activation is not malicious.
Standard covers with tamper tag: all of the above benefits as well as a tamper tag which physically and visually deters people from lifting the cover, however when needed the tamper tag is designed to snap when force is applied to lift the cover. Tamper tags are inexpensive and easy to replace.
Best application: some issues with malicious activation, or regular accidental activation occurs.
Locking Covers: all of the benefits of the standard cover, as well as a more robust plastic frangible lock, designed to break when full force is used to break the lock in a genuine emergency. Visually this looks like it is locked which prevents malicious tampering. Key (supplied) is used to open for testing and maintenance and the locks are inexpensive and easy to replace when broken.
Best application: regular issues with malicious activation, or regular accidental activation occurs. We find these work well in places such as schools, additional needs settings, hospitals and shopping centres.
Alarmed Covers: all of the benefits of the standard cover as well as a 96 decibel alarm which sounds when the cover is lifted drawing immediate attention to it being used. If the cover is being tampered with maliciously, or by accident this is often enough to deter the person from actually then pressing the button. The sound is a good way of staff/adults being notified there is an issue.
Best application: regular issues with malicious activation, or regular accidental activation occurs, or when the covers are out of sight from adults or staff. We find these work well in places such as schools, additional needs settings, hospitals and shopping centres.
Alarmed locking covers: combining all the benefits of the alarmed cover and the locking cover for a full belt and braces approach.
Best application: regular issues with malicious activation. We find these work well in places such as schools, additional needs settings, hospitals and shopping centres.
Why should I buy a protective cover?
Repeated false alarms can cause many problems, whether it be loss of earnings, revenue or just loss of staff and pupil focus. They can put emergency responders and the public at greater risk attending a non emergency and even cause complacency and risk fatigue with staff, pupils and members of the public, meaning that they are less likely to respond in a real emergency situation.
Whist educating businesses, staff, pupils and the public to be proactive about preventing malicious activation is important, one immediate and sufficient way to drastically reduce and even eliminate false alarms is by installing alarmed call point covers.
When this easy to retrofit cover is lifted a loud warning alarm will sound locally, causing immediate attention to the area before the fire alarm is then activated. Many of our schools in particular have had great success with reducing false alarms, both accidental and intentional.
Other sizes and variants are available, so if you can't see what you are looking for, please give our customer service team a call.
